We’d like to give a big shout out to Emma Iddison from Colonial Clydesdales & Carriages for sharing this wonderful story  about people in our equine community helping out other communities in need. And we were blown away to see that that the lovely ladies are donning our Dianne Ruffle Front Shirts !

Last month, Colonial Clydesdales and Dowerin Events Management partnered up at the Dowerin GWN Field Days event to achieve a common goal: to help drought-stricken Australian farmers keep their animals fed and their farms working. Though the weather was not nearly as cooperative as the two parties would have liked, there was a great turnout, and both organisations managed to raise $600 for Rural Aid and the Buy a Bale program.

Emma says that she appreciated the opportunity to fundraise for Rural Aid and to raise awareness about the incredible challenges many of our country’s farmers face on an ongoing basis. She also loves the smiles her team of friendly Clydesdales generate at every event she attends.

Preserving the prestigious history of the Clydesdale

Strong and mighty, the Clydesdale is a draft horse that has been used for haulage, logging and agriculture since its earliest days in Scotland. The breed made its way over to Australia and New Zealand in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it is credited as being the breed that built our country.

Sadly, since World War I, the breed has faced a sharp decline, now considered vulnerable to possible extinction.

Colonial Clydesdales & Carriages is working diligently to preserve the history and bloodlines of the Clydesdale. Emma and her partner, Peter, are committed to educating the public about Clydesdales and sharing both the skills and traditions associated with this mighty breed.

About Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale Program

The consistent bout of droughts across Australia has left many farmers impoverished and unable to properly feed their families and their cattle, with some farmers even being forced off of their land.

A few years ago Rural Aid created a new program to support these farmers called the Buy a Bale program. Through this program, donations of money, time, and diesel are used to deliver hay and other essential items to those living in drought-stricken areas.

Every donation made to the program helps support farmers and entire communities. Anyone can make a donation to the program at their local Woolworths supermarket(look for the BuyaBale option the next time you’re at the checkout!).
